One Faith, One Church, One Mission. Saint Joan of Arc is a Western Rite mission parish of the United Orthodox Catholic Church (UOCC)—a church rooted in the ancient Christian faith, nourished by the sacraments, and committed to sharing Christ’s love with the world. Our prayer is the prayer of Jesus: “That they all may be one.”
Ancient Faith. Living Mission.
Our mission is to fulfill the Great Commission by inviting people into discipleship, nurturing the priesthood of all believers, and forming faithful clergy to serve God’s people. Together, we seek to build the Reign of God through worship, compassion, and service. We believe the Church’s mission extends beyond its walls. What we celebrate at the altar shapes how we live—in our homes, neighborhoods, workplaces, and wherever people need hope, dignity, and care.
Who We Are
Our identity rests on three commitments:
Canonical: We value the Church’s historic order, accountable leadership, and the shared responsibilities of clergy and faithful.
Orthodox Catholic: We hold to the apostolic faith, the historic creeds, the seven Ecumenical Councils the seven sacraments, and apostolic succession.
Traditionally Inclusive: We honor the Church’s sacred traditions while welcoming people into its life and ministry across the many circumstances of their lives.
We hold to tradition with hearts open to the Holy Spirit. Our church embraces both Eastern and Western liturgical traditions. At Saint Joan of Arc, we express this shared faith through the Western Rite.
A Sacramental Welcome
The sacraments are gifts of God’s grace, nourishing us for a life with Christ. We seek to remove unjust barriers to participation while providing appropriate preparation and pastoral care.
Holy Communion is open to all baptized Christians, whether or not they belong to our denomination. Women and men, married or single, may discern a call to the diaconate, priesthood, or episcopate, with formation and discernment appropriate to each ministry. We also welcome those called to religious life and the many ministries of the baptized.
Open, Affirming, and Caring
We affirm the sacred worth of every person, created in the image of God.
Our LGBTQ+ siblings are welcome in the full life and ministry of the Church—as laity, religious, and clergy. Our welcome also extends to those who are divorced, returning to faith, living with questions, or seeking a spiritual home.
We recognize that some people carry wounds from experiences with religion. We strive to be a community that listens with compassion, respects each person’s dignity, and supports healing through patient pastoral care.
Our Faith in Action
Following Jesus means praying together and serving together: caring for those in need, visiting the sick, comforting the grieving, and working for justice and peace.
At Saint Joan of Arc, we share in this wider mission while building a parish family here in Virginia Beach.
